Title: Continuous Emissions Monitoring System Using Gas Chromatography

Abstract: A commercial continuous emissions monitoring system for the measurement of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) and for process monitoring applications is disclosed. The system is composed of a micro gas chromatograph system using thermal conductivity detection optimized for fast chromatography. The analyzer has the necessary valving for stream selection which, in conjunction with sophisticated MS Windows application software, allow for stream selection and automatic calibration of the system at user-definable times and for the measurement of individual VOCs and HAPs in up to four sample streams.
The system is capable of analyzing up to 50 compounds using eight chromatographic columns in less than a few minutes. It employs a mass flow measurement device and also calculates and displays processed emission data such as control device efficiency and total weight emitted for given time periods. The accuracy and precision of this system has been demonstrated to be greater than 95%. A demonstration project showed that this analyzer met all requirements of U.S. EPA Performance Specification #9.
Application: Air emission measurement of chemicals used by pharmaceutical companies and/or produced by industrial chemical companies
Advantages: Avoids problems encountered by other analyzers due to the following:

· low operational costs and unattended operation
· relatively small size
