WANTED: EXTRAORDINARY STUDENTS
An extraordinary student is a student who has overcome unusual obstacles (for instance, a disability, illness, a difficult family issue or major life challenge) and has been able to succeed in her or his educational pursuits.
These extra-ordinary students will be recognized at a banquet held in their honor this Spring. Selected students will receive a plaque and a scholarship award. Awards will be given to up to six undergraduate juniors or seniors and up to two graduate students. We welcome nominations of students from the Manhattan and Salina campuses as well as distance education students. The importance of confidentiality is understood.
Who can nominate a student?
Anyone in the campus community.
To nominate a student, please submit a letter of up to two pages in which you relate the following:
- Student name, age, major, class standing, other pertinent demographic information;
- Situation/condition, etc. that constitutes a major obstacle to the student’s pursuit of university education;
- Description of the student’s extra-ordinary efforts in overcoming the obstacle(s);
- Specifics about the ways in which she/he has been successful (“success” may look different for each student) and
- Include the nominators contact information.
