The Office of the Vice President for Research administers and promotes the university's research mission through a variety of supporting offices, services and dedicated research facilities.

The office oversees research compliance, patents and commercialization of inventions and technologies, the National Agricultural Biosecurity Center, and the Biosecurity Research Institute.

Peter Dorhout supports and facilitates the research efforts of K-State's faculty, staff, and students; directs the university's research mission in becoming a Top 50 public research university by 2025; and promotes the university's research program with stakeholders.

Paul LowePaul Lowe

Associate Vice President for Research and Director, PreAward Services

Paul Lowe is an Authorized Organizational Representative for K-State. He manages efforts of staff in PreAward Services to assist faculty, staff, and administrators in developing, reviewing, and submitting proposals and the development, review, and negotiation and acceptance of contracts and agreements received for external funding to support K-State’s research, scholarly, and creative activities and discovery. Paul oversees RSCAD subcontracting activities, electronic commerce initiatives, and policy compliance and is a key contact for export control questions and issues.

Cheryl DoerrCheryl Doerr

Associate Vice President for Research Compliance

Cheryl Doerr is responsible for university-wide compliance with applicable regulatory laws and guidelines for animal care and use programs, research involving human subjects, and recombinant DNA activities and biosafety.

Associate Vice President for Research and
Research Director, Biosecurity Research Institute 

Stephen Higgs oversees biosafety, biosecurity and biocontainment research and educational programs at the Biosecurity Research Institute. He works to strengthen existing research and develop new research opportunities with K-State, academic, federal, and private agencies that explore all aspects of animal and plant diseases, food safety and security, and related public health issues. Stephen is also Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Vector-Borne & Zoonotic Diseases, serves on the Editorial Board of Health Security (formerly Biosecurity and Bioterrorism) and is president-elect of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

Mary RezacMary Rezac, Ph.D.

Interim Associate Vice President for Research
and Tim Taylor Professor of Chemical Engineering

Mary Rezac supports and facilitates the research efforts of K-State's faculty, staff, and students. In her role as interim associate vice president, she supports multi-investigator research collaborations, professional development activities for new and continuing researchers, and university-wide initiatives. Mary maintains an active research program that has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Energy, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and more than a dozen industrial partners.
