Israeli delegation to conduct Sept. 10 water management seminar at K-State Olathe

Monday, Sept. 8, 2014

MANHATTAN — Two Israeli experts in water technology, strategic planning and desalination will visit Kansas State University Olathe on Wednesday, Sept. 10, to present two international water management seminars.

The delegation includes Michael Zaide, head of the strategic planning section at the Israeli Water and Sewage Authority, and Oved Cohen, deputy manager of operations and maintenance at Hagihon-Jerusalem Water Utility.

Zaide and Cohen will deliver seminars to water professionals and faculty from 9-11 a.m. in the Great Plains Room at K-State Olathe. Zaide will present "Strategic planning with a focus on desalination projects" and Cohen will present "Using new technology and innovation to ensure water quality, system efficiency and security."

The seminars are open to the public, but registration is required at http://goo.gl/IkwGtc.

The visit is hosted by K-State Olathe, the Urban Water Institute, the Kansas Center for Agricultural Resources and the Environment, the Kansas Water Resources Institute, the Kansas Water Office and the University of Kansas.

"Israel is a worldwide leader in the development and management of limited water resources," said Stacy Hutchinson, interim director of the Urban Water Institute. "We are excited about the opportunity to interact with them and learn more. This is especially critical as water resources in Kansas become more limited and we work to develop the future vision for water across the state."

On Tuesday, Sept. 9, the delegation also will meet with Gov. Sam Brownback and officials from the Kansas Water Office and will deliver two seminars at the University of Kansas.

The seminars are made possible by a collaboration with the Consulate General of Israel to the Midwest, the Government of Israel Economic Mission to the Midwest, the Kansas Water Office, Kansas State University and the University of Kansas.
