Kansas State University Global Campus awards scholarships to distance students for fall semester

MANHATTAN — Kansas State University Global Campus has awarded 37 scholarships providing financial aid to students across the country for the fall 2014 semester.

Scholarships include the $1,000 Maurine Allison O'Bannon Memorial Scholarship, $1,500 Allan D. Sicat Scholarship awarded each fall semester to military veterans or active duty military students, and the $1,000 K-State Global Campus Scholarship.

The colleges of Agriculture, Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Engineering and Technology and Aviation have partnered with K-State Global Campus to offer scholarships beginning this fall to students in their colleges who are pursuing an online degree. College scholarships range from $600 to $1,000.

Scholarships through K-State Global Campus provide support specifically for nontraditional students pursuing their degrees online while balancing work, family, military service or other responsibilities.

"I was thrilled to receive this scholarship," said Daina Bitters, senior in dietetics from Lawrence and an O'Bannon scholarship recipient. "It is very rewarding to know that you recognize my hard work and dedication to my studies, and it gives me encouragement to keep moving forward."

Along with Bitters, the 2014 fall scholarship recipients include:

Jessica Adams, junior in family studies and human services, Baileyville, K-State Global Campus Scholarship; Cathy Hamner, senior in general business, Blue Rapids, Business Administration Scholarship; Alex Arnold, senior in animal sciences and industry, Fort Scott, K-State Global Campus Scholarship; Stacy Mueller, junior in general business, Humboldt, Business Administration Scholarship; Wendy George, junior in family studies and human services, Iola, Global Campus Scholarship; Ana-Alicia Tolento, master's student in academic advising, Lenexa, Education Scholarship.

From Manhattan: Jessica Bauerle, master's student in curriculum and instruction, K-State Global Campus Scholarship; Jacob Maurer, master's student in agribusiness, Agriculture Scholarship; and Amber Schaffer, master's student in curriculum and instruction, Education Scholarship.

Robert Quinn, senior in social sciences, Ottawa, Arts and Sciences Scholarship; Wesley Green, senior in food science and industry, Paola, Agriculture Scholarship; Rebecca Sombatchareun, senior in family studies and human services, Pleasanton, O'Bannon Scholarship; Jamie Rood, master's student in gerontology, Riley, K-State Global Campus Scholarship; Kyle House, junior in technology management, Salina, Technology and Aviation Scholarship; Michelle Graham, senior in general business, Topeka, Business Administration Scholarship; Derek Judd, senior in dietetics, O'Bannon Scholarship, and Elizabeth King, junior in social science, Arts & Sciences Scholarship, both from Wichita; and Amber Morrison, senior in general business, Yates Center, Business Administration Scholarship.
