Timely notification: Aggravated robbery Wednesday morning near campus

Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013

MANHATTAN -- In compliance with the Timely Notice provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Police and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, Kansas State University Police are giving notice of a disturbing act of violence reported to have occurred near campus.

At approximately 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, a male entered the Dara's Convenience Store, 1816 Claflin Road, Manhattan, armed with a weapon. The suspect demanded that the store clerk hand over money from the cash register. After obtaining the money, the suspect also demanded that the clerk hand over his vehicle keys. After being provided the vehicle keys, the suspect exited the business and entered the clerk's vehicle. Suspect was last seen fleeing the area operating the clerk’s white in color 1995 Chevrolet Pickup.

At approximately 8:45 a.m., a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper located the white 1995 Chevrolet Pickup abandoned in the 6600 block of Tuttle Creek Boulevard. This location is a few miles north of Manhattan.

It can be assumed that conditions continue to exist that may pose a threat to members and guests of the university community. It is the duty of the institution to warn of possible dangerous conditions on or near the campus, and at affiliate organizations off campus. An affirmative duty exists to warn persons associated with the university of possible peril at the hands of some third party or parties.

Kansas State University Police advises members of the campus community to:

• Report crimes immediately when they occur.

• Report any suspicious activity.
