MANHATTAN — Kansas State University's annual dance extravaganza, SpringDance, will feature students and faculty presenting a variety of new, fresh and entertaining works.

SpringDance 2014 will be at 7:30 p.m. March 28 and 29 at McCain Auditorium. It is presented by the university's School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. Tickets are available at the McCain box office for $8-$14. Group discounts are available. For information, contact neildunn@k-state.edu.

SpringDance 2014 includes work by Laura Donnelly, assistant professor of dance, whose "SolidCrystal" is a collaborative work with Kansas State University alumnus Bryce Craig, a composer/musician. It's the first section of a three-part contemporary ballet inspired by the physical process of a crystal melting into a liquid, then re-solidifying into glass. Donnelly's "Ready Player One," a collaboration with Robert Roth, was inspired by the themes of identity, creativity and individuality that emerged from the 2013 K-State Book Network selection, "Ready Player One."

"Hide and Seek" will feature the K-State Tap Dance Ensemble and tap dance students from the university's dance program. "Ventilation" is a contemporary jazz dance work that explores breath, expansion, suspension and fear. Other works in SpringDance 2014 include "Awakening," a duet by David Ollington, associate professor of dance, which will be performed at the American College Dance Festival at the University of Montana, Missoula in April. Also by Ollington, "Moon Flight," for clarinetist and tap dancer, will feature Tod Kerstetter, university professor of music.

New ensemble works by Ollington; Andrea Skowronek, instructor of dance; and choreography by Carolyn Fitzgibbons, senior in theatre, Nixa, Mo., also will be performed.
