Distance students earn summer-term scholarships from university's Global Campus

Monday, June 30, 2014

MANHATTAN — Kansas State University Global Campus has awarded $9,000 in scholarships to distance education students across the country for the summer 2014 term.

The K-State Global Campus Scholarship for Distance Education Students provides financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in distance degree programs. This is the first time the scholarship has been offered for the summer term.

Dave Stewart, associate dean of Kansas State University Global Campus, said providing scholarship support for these students often makes the difference in continuing or postponing their educational goals.

"Most of our distance students also have work and family responsibilities that include financial obligations as well," Stewart said.

The summer 2014 scholarship recipients include:

Jessica Adams, junior in family studies and human services, Baileyville; Alex Arnold, junior in animal sciences and industry, Fort Scott; Daina Bitters, senior in dietetics, Lawrence; Amber Schaffer, master's student in curriculum and instruction, Manhattan; and Rebecca Sombatchareun, senior in family studies and human services, Pleasanton.

From out of state:

Johnny Hedgepath, master's student in academic advising, Bluff City, Tennessee; Cornell Sneed, master's student in academic advising, Johnson City, Tennessee; and Patrice Lyon, master's student in food science, Pullman, Washington.
