Athletic trainers society honors athletic training students for outstanding academic work

MANHATTAN 
— The Kansas Athletic Trainers Society recently honored several Kansas State University students for their academic achievements in the university's accredited undergraduate athletic training program.

The program, which is offered in the College of Human Ecology's human nutrition department, requires students study the concepts and skills to properly manage the health care problems associated with physical activity. They prepare for careers as allied-health professionals and for the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification examination, leading to certification and the credential of certified athletic trainer.

First team all-academic honors were awarded to students who maintained a minimum 3.8 grade point average and who were juniors or higher during calendar year 2013. Second team honors were awarded to students with a minimum 3.6 GPA. Students with a minimum 3.4 GPA were awarded honorable mention.

Students earning honors include:

Breanna Hamilton, senior, Clearwater, first team all-academic honors; Jessica Spencer, senior, De Soto, honorable mention; Jessica Steele, sophomore, Garnett, honorable mention; Ethan Koochel, December 2013 bachelor's graduate, Great Bend, first team all-academic honors.

From Greater Kansas City: Julianne Perrini, senior, Fairway, second team all-academic honors; Bridgette Westhoff, sophomore, Olathe, honorable mention; and Nicole Perrin, junior, honorable mention, Rachael Plotas, junior, honorable mention, and Matthew Stafford, senior, honorable mention, all from Overland Park.

Braden Hynek, senior, Hanover, second team all-academic honors; Nathan Roth, senior, Holcomb, second team all-academic honors; Lindy Sasse, sophomore, Hutchinson, honorable mention; Drew Mueller, December 2013 bachelor's graduate, Iola, second team all-academic honors; Jessica Cottrell, senior, Lawrence, second team all-academic honors; Calley Brey, sophomore, honorable mention, and Jesse Johnson, senior, second team all-academic honors, both from Manhattan; Derek Hammer, senior, Rossville, honorable mention; Alex Crawford, senior, second team all-academic honors, and Kacia Turner, December 2013 bachelor's graduate, first team all-academic honors, both from Topeka; Ryan Lahey, first team all-academic honors, and Brandy Tholstrup, senior, second team all-academic honors, both from Wichita.

From out of state:

Tyler Struckoff, junior, Fort Collins, Colorado, honorable mention; Morgan Ball, senior, Reeds Spring, Missouri, first team all-academic honors; Erica Dubek, junior, Flower Mound, Texas, honorable mention; Kayla Schwalenberg, senior, Plano, Texas, first team all-academic honors; and Paige Blackmon, junior, Prosper, Texas, honorable mention.
