It is the 48th award won by a K-State student in the competition, which is twice as many awards as any other school. August 2004

* Tamara Felts, a fifth-year senior in architectural engineering at K-State, was selected by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, also known as ASHRAE, as the recipient of a $3,000 general scholarship. Only two students in the nation were chosen for the scholarship. Felts, Shawano, Wis., was presented the scholarship at the society's winter meeting in Anaheim, Calif., at the end of January. Fourteen other members of the K-State chapter also attended. April 2004

* Derek Trumpp, a third-year student in interior architecture and product design at K-State, received the top honor in the Exhibit Designers and Producers Association International Student Design Competition. Judging took place in Atlanta, Ga., in February. As the first-place winner, Trumpp, Palco, received a $4,000 scholarship and a complete design software package from Autodesk. He also has been offered a summer internship at Freeman Exhibits in Dallas. Trumpp's project was one of several K-State entries from an assignment in the Product Design class taught by Allan Hastings, professor of interior architecture and product design. For the class and the competition, students were asked to bid and/or collaborate on an interactive exhibit environment, 50 feet by 50 feet, for Acoustic Alchemy, an international instrument manufacturer. March 2004

* Students in Professor Don Watts' Architectural Design Studio 4 are spending part of the spring semester working for an actual client: the steering committee for the Lumberyard Arts Center in Baldwin City. The K-State students will be contributing design ideas for the center. February 2004

* K-State's interior architecture/interior design and architecture programs rank third and eighth, respectively, according to a 2004 nationwide survey of leading firms across the United States. It's the fourth consecutive year K-State ranks as having one of the top three interior architecture/interior design programs in the nation. It's also the third time in survey history that K-State's architecture program has been ranked among the top 10. February 2004
