How to uninstall Symantec Antivirus

In order to install the Trend Micro Security for Mac (TMSM) you will first need to remove your current anti-virus. On this page you will find instructions for removing the Symantec Antivirus program that was distributed by K-State prior to November 10th, 2009.

To uninstall Symantec Antivirus you will need to run the RemoveSymantecMacFiles file from your Mac. Below you will find detailed instructions, from Symantec, explaining how to remove the software.

First step: Download RemoveSymantecMacFiles.zip onto your desktop.

Second step: Double-click the RemoveSymantecMacFiles.zip file that you downloaded so that the file expands.

Third step: Open the RemoveSymantecMacFiles folder.

Fourth step: Double-click the RemoveSymantecMacFiles command file.

Fifth step: A window may appear warning you that this application was either downloaded from the internet or came in your mail, in either case select Open.

Sixth step: A command line window will appear (don’t panic everything is automated) type in you computer password (the one that allows you to do updates and access to your Mac). You will not see your password typed, just type it and press return key.

Seventh step: You will now be asked if you want to remove the Symantec files, type 1, confirming your choice and then press return key.

Eigth step: This is the final step. In the terminal window it may say one of two things. Telling you the process is completed, One choice may be, to make a selection on having your computer restart, the other may only state the Process is Completed. In either case Restart Your Computer. (You are finished.)
