Reconstructing Civility:
Modes of Engagement for 2017

7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. | Tuesday, April 11 | K-State Student Union

Taking both the nation's current political climate and growing American perceptions of incivility in our country into account, this symposium explored issues surrounding civility, such as what is civility, what are different models of civil dialogue, how can we hold civil discussions in our classrooms, and what are some exemplars on this campus of civil dialogue used in the service of addressing salient issues.

The symposium featured two keynote speakers. The morning kick-off keynote was Ed O'Malley, President and CEO of the Kansas Leadership Center. Dr. Carolyn Lukensmeyer, Executive Director of the National Institute for Civil Discourse, gave the afternoon keynote. The event also featured scholarly presentations and deliberation demonstrations.
