3-1 Devaluing dad
There are many reasons for devaluing fatherhood. Being a single parent is incredibly difficult. We don’t want to add to the burden by claiming that fathers are necessary for their children. So we have made excuses for single parents, especially moms. Professionals advise them, “All children really need is one person to love them.” Take a moment to think about what this statement means. Is the advice necessary but insufficient? Can children grow up to be happy without fathers? Can they grow up to be happy having stepfathers? Can some children better off without their fathers?
