Ancillary Service Endorsements

Ancillary service endorsements help manage undeliverable mail by instructing the USPS on handling options, such as forwarding, returning, or providing a corrected address. Four key endorsements include:

  1. Return Service Requested: No forwarding; mail returned with new address or nondelivery reason.
  2. Change Service Requested: No forwarding or return; new address/nondelivery reason sent separately.
  3. Address Service Requested: Forwarding or return, with address correction fees for updates after 12 months.
  4. Temp–Return Service Requested: Mail forwarded for temporary address changes; returned otherwise.

Fees vary by class and type of notice. Place endorsements in one of four USPS-approved positions: below the return address, above the delivery address, to the left of the postage, or below the postage area. Proper placement ensures that requested services are provided.
