Kansas Riverkeeper to deliver public lecture on water resource issues in Kansas

Submitted by Melissa Harvey

The Kansas Water Institute will present Dawn Buehler, chair of the Kansas Water Authority and Kansas Riverkeeper with Friends of the Kaw, as a featured speaker during an Earth Day Lecture event.

Buehler will present "A Bridge Over Troubled Waters: How Scientific Data and Shareholder Cooperation Can Impact Kansas Water Resource Challenges and Water Policy" at two different lectures. The first will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Earth Day, April 22, in the McVay Family Town Hall, Leadership Studies Building. Buehler's second lecture will be held at 5:30 p.m. on April 23 in the Engineering Hall auditorium.

"Dawn is an experienced voice for advancing collaborative partnerships between scientists and citizens to navigate the challenges we're facing when it comes to Kansas water resources," said Susan Metzger, director of the Kansas Water Institute.

Both lectures are free and open to the public. The Kansas Water Institute will offer a pre-lecture reception on April 23 with light refreshments.

Buehler holds two appointments from Gov. Laura Kelly. She serves as chair of the Kansas Water Authority, a board that provides leadership to ensure that water policies and programs address the needs of all Kansans. The Kansas Water Authority is responsible for advising the governor, legislature and director of the Kansas Water Office on water policy issues and for approving the Kansas Water Plan, budget, federal contracts, administration regulations and legislation proposed by the Kansas Water Office. Buehler is also Gov. Kelly's appointee for the Oil and Gas Advisory Committee.

She is also the Kansas Riverkeeper and executive director with Friends of the Kaw, a nonprofit conservation organization that works for the Kansas River.

More information about the Earth Day Lectures can be found on the Kansas Water Institute website.
