Education Graduate Student Organization hosting part one of microcredential workshop

Submitted by Cassandra Adams

The Education Graduate Student Organization will host the first of three professional development workshops at noon CST today, Monday, Nov. 6, on Zoom. Zoom Meeting ID: 811 5681 7459 Passcode: EGSO.

Today's session will help students in all disciplines learn to craft compelling conference proposals.

"The mission of our organization is to provide assistance and support to our members through social enrichment, professional development, and strong communication about opportunities for student success," said Amy Levin Plattner, co-president of the Education Graduate Student Organization.

The workshop, led by Ambyr Rios, assistant professor of curriculum and instruction, and Lisa Rubin, associate professor of special education, counseling and student affairs, is part of a three-part series that will lead to a microcredential in professional conference mastery.

"The opportunity to earn a microcredential through this workshop series not only offers students tangible recognition, but it also provides a means to enhance their professional development, stand out in the job market, and motivate their engagement in the learning process," said Nooshin Darvishinia, the vice president of the Education Graduate Student Organization. "It is a valuable addition to the educational experience."

To earn the noncredit microcredential, students will be required to participate in three separate one-hour workshops designed to enhance students' professional skills and demonstrate their understanding of the concepts covered in the workshops. Microcredentials allow learners to learn skills and competencies in short, flexible timeframes.

The two upcoming sessions, to be scheduled in the spring semester, include "Effective Conference Presentations," in which learners will discover the secrets to delivering powerful and engaging conference presentations, and "Conference Networking and Opportunities," in which learners will develop the skills needed to network effectively during conferences and seize career-enhancing opportunities.
