College of Agriculture hosts inaugural Celebrate Agriculture Day Student Summit
The Kansas State University College of Agriculture hosted the first Celebrate Agriculture Day Student Summit on Friday, Sept. 22.
This event, geared toward prospective students, was held in partnership with the Celebrate Agriculture Day football game held on Sept. 23. More than 25 prospective high school students attended the event to explore opportunities within the agriculture industry. Students who registered early for the event were granted access to three complimentary tickets for the Celebrate Agriculture Day football game.
The event kicked off with a welcome from Dan Moser, associate dean of academic programs for the College of Agriculture. After a brief welcome and overview of the day, attendees participated in a browsing fair to explore College of Agriculture programs and resources offered by K-State. The attendees were able to learn details about College of Agriculture programs such as placement rates, internship availability and interdisciplinary study opportunities. The browsing fair was able to highlight how prospective students can focus on multiple areas of study without adding additional time to their tenure at K-State.
Afterward, prospective students were able to connect with current K-State students during lunch and a student panel discussion along with campus and residence hall tours. The tours highlighted College of Agriculture buildings and on-campus facilities.
Finally, prospective students participated in hands-on workshops and immersion tours within each major. Students were able to tour the K-State Insect Zoo and Call Hall dairy plant, bake their own pretzels, participate in a panel to evaluate lab-grown meats, practice business operations as a tractor manufacturing company and more.
The College of Agriculture sees the event as a great success and plans to host more on-campus prospective student events like this in the near future.
