Seed to Saw Open House and forestry tours

The Kansas Forest Service State Office will host live demonstrations, tours of its arboretum and historic state office, and educational booths and activities on Saturday, Sept. 30. 

Programs include:

  • Identifying and selecting trees — 9 a.m.
  • Tree maintenance — 10 a.m.
  • Historic state office tour — 10 a.m.
  • Hazard tree removal — 11 a.m.
  • Historic state office tour — 11 a.m.
  • Sawmill demonstration — noon.

Additional activities include:

  • Tree seedling display.
  • Water table demonstration.
  • Story walk.
  • Coloring station.
  • Destination Burrito food truck.
  • A visit from Smokey Bear.

After the Seed to Saw Open House, three additional tours will take place to the Fort Riley Veteran's Cemetery, Anneberg Park and a property tour that includes the removal of invasives, a recent growing season burn and a trial of containerized rootstock. Due to limited parking availability, the event fee will cover the cost of transportation that will depart from the Kansas Forest Service State Office and return to that location.
