Kansas State University Olathe and the K-State Division of Continuing Education have been nominated by Kansas City Meeting Planners International, or KCMPI, for four awards for their leadership and support of the Kansas City chapter and its 2013 programs, as well as for sponsoring the Restaurant and Catering Showcase, which was April 10 at the Olathe campus.

Kansas City Meeting Planners International has nominated K-State Olathe and the K-State Division of Continuing Education for the Employer Recognition Award. This honor recognizes an organization that has generously contributed to the organization by supporting its employee as an active member.

The Catering and Restaurant Showcase has been nominated as Social Event of the Year for the organization, as well as the Catering and Restaurant Showcase Education Program for Education Program of the Year. K-State Olathe events manager Renee Hultgren is also being recognized with a Rising Star Award nomination.

The Rising Star Award recognizes Kansas City Meeting Planners International's newest member of less than three years, who has contributed extraordinarily to Kansas City Meeting Planners International with his/her dedication, vision, enthusiasm, willingness to participate, volunteer efforts and commitment.

Hultgren said, "The KCMPI showcase afforded us the opportunity to be involved in a startup event which offered area business leaders, planners and hospitality vendors a unique opportunity to network and grow their business in a state-of-the-art venue."

The April 10 showcase brought local caterers, event vendors, and meeting and event planners together for the premier catering event in the Kansas City area. Vendors marketed their companies, learned current ideas and trends, and developed business connections. The event also gave companies the opportunity to introduce themselves to event planners and other key decision-makers in the business industry.

Winners will be announced at the June 13 Kansas City Meeting Planners International Awards Banquet in Kansas City.
