Chris Jones

Christopher Jones, Thomas and Connie Paulson Civil Engineering Outstanding Faculty Member and Wallis-Lage Family Cornerstone Teaching Scholar, has been named interim department head of civil engineering. Jones will also hold the Civil Engineering Alumni Professorship Honoring Dr. Robert Snell.

The announcement was made by Matt O'Keefe, dean of the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering. Jones joined the department in 2017 after six years of work in a government research and development lab following his doctoral program at Texas A&M University. Jones also received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas A&M University.

"I appreciate Chris serving as the interim department head," O'Keefe said. "I am confident his leadership will advance the great work being done by our civil engineering faculty, staff and students."

Jones' current research interest areas include mechanics and materials, computational structural mechanics and uncertainty quantification, in addition to Portland cement concrete. In addition to his research, Jones has a strong passion for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
