Submitted by Brandon Haddock

Celebrating diversity, equity and the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement, the LGBT Resource Center will host a reception, guest speakers and a screening of the influential documentary film, "Brother Outsider — The Life of Bayard Rustin."

The campus community is invited to a reception and screening of the award-winning documentary on Thursday, Jan. 26, at West Memorial Stadium. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Sandy Chastan Purple Masque lobby with a presentation from the staff of the Beach Museum of Art. The film will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Purple Masque Theatre.

The pivotal documentary explores the life and role of Bayard Rustin within the civil rights movement with King and the erasure of queer identity during the civil rights movement. Read more about the documentary.

The reception and documentary screening for Martin Luther King Jr. Observance Week is sponsored by the K-State LGBT Resource Center, Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art, Ebony Theater, the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance and Diversity and Multicultural Student Affairs.
