Goins

Wayne Goins, university distinguished professor of music, was asked to serve on the board of directors of the Blues Foundation, an internationally-acclaimed organization that serves as the official governing body for blues musicians throughout the U.S. and beyond.

Interim President and CEO Kimberly Horton notified Goins that he was elected to the board by unanimous vote by the membership, board of directors chair Scott Fitzke, and chair of the Governance Committee Jeff Syracuse.

According to Fitzke, Goins' reputation as an outstanding research scholar, recording and performing artist on guitar and distinguished professor status at Kansas State University all led to the board's selection of him as an ideal candidate for his nomination for membership.

Located in Memphis, Tennessee, the foundation generates scholarships for the Generation Blues Program dedicated to encouraging youth participation; HART Fund — Handy Artists Relief Trust — for Blues musicians and their families in financial need due to a broad range of health concerns; and the Blues in the Schools Program that collaborates and partners with Blues educators and Blues Affiliates to bring high-quality blues educational programs to local communities.

Goins will be expected to actively participate in these programs, as well as three major events that the foundation hosts yearly: International Blues Challenge, the Blues Music Awards and the Blues Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony ceremonies. Read more.
