New free zero credit financial well-being course with incentives

Submitted by Jodi Kaus

Kansas State University is offering a new free financial well-being zero credit hour course to assist students in learning about managing financial resources, overcoming financial challenges and how their college career translates into future opportunities.

As part of the course, students will also be introduced to Powercat Financial, K-State's peer-to-peer financial education program, by scheduling a free college financial planning session. With this pilot program, we are offering a $50 scholarship incentive to the first 250 students who enroll and a $50 scholarship incentive to the first 250 students to complete the course.

The course is called PFP 300: Problems in Personal Financial Planning/Financial Well-being and will be offered in four sections with two in-person options and two online asynchronous options. Students may enroll in whichever section meets their needs the best. Each section will complete six modules on topics such as financial beliefs and behaviors, budgeting, student loan planning, understanding credit and more. The in-person section will meet from 4-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays over three weeks and adds the value of a facilitator. The online asynchronous option allows you to work through the modules independently at your own pace over five weeks.

Students may choose from one of the remaining sections and enroll via KSIS now. Graduate students must email btgray@k-stat.edu to request enrollment.

Course No. 17408 online asynchronous from Oct. 24 to Nov. 23.
Course No. 17426 in person Tuesday/Thursday 4-5 p.m. Oct. 25 to Nov. 10.

Note: The scholarship(s) may result in an offset of other financial aid/loans or payment toward a balance remaining on a student account. Please ensure you have direct deposit set up in KSIS to receive the funds and allow 30 days for processing.

Please contact Blake Gray, personal financial planning professor of practice, with any questions about the courses or enrollment via btgray@k-state.edu
