Oct. 3 deadline for Johnson Cancer Research Center fall award applications
The Johnson Cancer Research Center is now accepting applications for its fall semester awards for faculty and students. New this year are undergraduate Cancer Research Awards for non-STEM research, creative inquiry and discovery projects related to cancer. Non-STEM faculty are encouraged but not required to be Johnson Cancer Research Center members.
Center faculty members are eligible to apply for awards and sponsor applications of their students. K-State faculty members who do cancer-relevant research are invited to apply for membership by contacting Sherry Fleming, director of the center and professor of biology, at sdflemin@k-state.edu.
This fall, the center is offering Innovative Research Awards to provide faculty with seed money to gather preliminary data crucial for major grant proposals. Modest travel awards are being offered for faculty, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to travel to learn new scientific techniques, visit collaborators or present at meetings.
For undergraduate students, the center is offering Cancer Research Awards, including some for non-STEM cancer research, creative inquiry and discovery projects. Awardees will work on research projects during the spring semester and receive $2,000 in late spring. Faculty mentors receive $1,000 per student for research expenses. Students must apply along with a faculty mentor.
The deadline to submit fall award applications is Oct. 3. Award information and applications are on the center's Award Programs webpage.
The Johnson Cancer Research Center supports the innovative and collaborative research of its faculty members in 20 departments across five colleges, as well as the training of their undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The center, part of the College of Arts and Sciences, supports and advances cancer research, education and outreach. Its awards are funded by private donations.
