K-State Salina awarded for making working and breastfeeding easier for employees

Submitted by Natalie Blair

Kansas State University Salina has received the bronze level Breastfeeding Employees Support Award from the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition's Business Case for Breastfeeding program.

The award is based on proven and established standards to benefit employers and employees. It recognizes businesses that provide support services to their nursing employees, education, and the time and space for employees to nurse and/or pump breast milk at their workplace.

According to Brenda Bandy, director of the Business Case for Breastfeeding program in Kansas, K-State Salina received the award for providing a high level of support to its employees as outlined in the coalition's criteria, including a pumping room, allowing flexible time to pump and instituting a policy of breastfeeding support.

Business Case for Breastfeeding is a program to assist employers in developing or enhancing support services for their nursing employees.
