Register for an ORCID iD today to track your research and support open access

Submitted by Cailin Riley

In honor of Open Access Week, the Center for the Advancement of Digital Scholarship at K-State Libraries is encouraging faculty and researchers to set up an ORCID iD.

The Center for the Advancement of Digital Scholarship staff will be available today from 1-2:30 p.m. on the first floor of the Sunderland Foundation Innovation Lab in Hale Library to help researchers sign up for an ORCID iD and answer questions.

Open Access Week is an annual scholarly communication event that promotes the benefits of open access publishing to the academic and research community. Open access, or the free, immediate, online availability of research, has the potential to maximize research investments, increase the exposure of published works, make learning materials more affordable and more.

ORCID, or open researcher and contributor identifiers, are unique research identifiers that distinguish between individuals and give them control of a space to claim their research and activities. By creating an ORCID iD, researchers can keep, collect and evaluate the metrics and impact of their works. ORCID iDs also support open access by reducing false concerns on metrics and enabling transparency. You can find an active example of a researcher's ORCID iD on this webpage.

You can register for your ORCID iD by visiting the sign-up webpage. You also can learn more about how to set up your ORCID iD by visiting the Libraries research guide. Questions about open access or ORCID can be directed to cads@k-state.edu. To learn more about open access at K-State, visit our website.
