National Academic Advising Association webinar 'Advising Transfer Students' tomorrow

Submitted by Michael L. Lynch

The next National Academic Advising Association, or NACADA, webinar for the spring semester is "Advising Transfer Students: Strategies for Today’s Realities and Tomorrow’s Challenges" at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in Room 226 at the K-State Student Union.

The "completion agenda" set by the Obama administration has stimulated certain realities within the higher education community, one of the foremost among them being the increased enrollment of transfer students. As a result, transfer students have been thrust into the forefront of new and renewed strategies for meeting the challenge — more graduates.  This new reality lies amid other challenges imposed by accreditors and employers — demonstrable student learning outcomes. This webinar will review the realities and challenges we are facing and provide an array of advising programs and strategies that will facilitate meeting the challenges.

Thomas J. Grites, assistant provost at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey is the moderator and the following are panelists:

  • Ross Hawkins, transfer adviser at Missouri State University, chair of NACADA Advising Transfer Students Commission and NACADA emerging leader.
  • Karen Archambault, director of student services at Branch Campus and Higher Education Centers at Brookdale Community College and immediate past chair of NACADA Advising Transfer Students Commission.
  • Sandy Waters, assistant dean for advising and transfer programs in academic enhancement at Old Dominion University.
