The Safe Zone program, in the Department of Diversity and Multicultural Student Affairs, invites anyone who has completed a Safe Zone Introductory Workshop to take the Safe Zone Advanced Workshop hosted by the Center for Advocacy, Response and Education, or CARE, from 1-2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, via Zoom. This workshop is the second of five workshops throughout the month of October in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Participants will learn about the complications that come with the advancement of technology as it relates to interpersonal violence, or IPV. IPV and stalking cases have spiked since the start of COVID-19. Participants will gain an increased understanding of the complex and potentially dangerous factors of online use that contribute to IPV. Focus will be placed on how to recognize online abuse and violence, and ways to intervene.

Register online for the Oct. 9 Safe Zone Advance Workshop with CARE.

Safe Zone continues to be part of Kansas State University's efforts to create an open and affirming campus since the 1970s. Safe Zone was created to help those facing sexual orientation discrimination. Revitalization of the initiative in 2002 created a more comprehensive and ever-evolving Safe Zone effort to fit the needs of current K-State community members. Allies become educated to help those coming from a variety of backgrounds and identities with needs concerning exclusionary acts like intimidation, micro and macro aggressions, discrimination, LGBTQ-related concerns or sexual violence.
