Frieda Beat retires from Human Capital Services

After more than 45 years of service, Frieda Beat will retire from Kansas State University on Sept. 4. Beat currently serves as a Human Capital Services supervisor in the Resource Center and Operations unit of HCS.
Beat was hired on Feb. 24, 1975, as a clerk typist II in the Comptroller's Office. She was later promoted to the Kansas Water Resources Institute in 1977 and eventually to a position with Personnel Services in 1981. In Personnel Services — now known as Human Capital Services — Beat has held several key roles in the areas of benefits, information management and operations. Known as the go-to person with knowledge in many areas, Beat specializes in the Human Resource Information System nonresident alien employment, data analysis and process improvement. Her value far exceeds any title, as she has a background and expertise that reaches beyond HCS into the campus community she has dealt with for many years.
Beat has witnessed many changes in Human Capital Services dating back to the transition of an all-paper environment to current day electronic and computerized systems, including HRIS and ImageNow. Much of Beat's expertise comes self-taught and researched, which shows her dedication and diligence in achieving efficiency within HCS. Her work has been acknowledged twice during her career when she was selected as the Classified Employee of the Year in Human Capital Services. And if there was ever an award to be given to the person asked most times to move offices, she would certainly win that award too! Her willingness to be an adaptable team player has proven invaluable.
Beat has many hobbies and interests that will keep her busy after retirement, but the void she will leave in Human Capital Services will be immeasurable.
