Anthropologists present research at international conference in San Francisco

Three faculty members in Kansas State University's anthropology program participated in the 111th annual meeting of the American Anthropological Association, convening in San Francisco, Nov. 14-18.
Jessica Falcone, assistant professor, presented a research paper, “Borrowing Buddhism: Taking Madhyamika Philosophy Seriously as Social Theory," in a session titled: "The Anthropology of Buddhism and the Buddhism of Anthropology: Crossing the Borders Between Religion and Science."
Heather Loyd, assistant professor, co-organized the session "Anticipating Children's Futures: The Relationship between Everyday Practices and Conceptions of Ideal Adulthood," in which she presented a paper on her Italian research, “Growing up Fast: Girls’ socialization into ideal womanhood in inner city Napoli.”
Finally, Harald E.L. Prins, university distinguished professor, was the discussant in a special session commemorating fellow indigenous South America specialists, “Remembering Two Astronauts of the Human Soul: Steve Rubenstein and Neil Whitehead.”
