Sociologist wins Distinguished Service Award from the American Sociological Association

Submitted by Sociology Program

Matthew R. Sanderson, Randall C. Hill distinguished professor of sociology, anthropology, and social work, and professor of sociology, was awarded the Samuel Cohn Distinguished Service Award from the American Sociological Association’s Sociology of Development Section.

The council, chaired by Jennifer Bair, University of Virginia, commended Sanderson’s commitment to building and supporting a diverse, inclusive, intellectually vibrant community of scholars and practitioners working in the area of development, and his critical role in building the section for nearly a decade.

Sanderson is only the second recipient of the Cohn Award, which was awarded for the first time to Samuel Cohn, founder of the association's Sociology of Development Section. Sanderson was presented the award in Philadelphia at the association's annual meeting.
