Erika Lindshield recognized as Professor of the Week

Submitted by Faculty Senate

Erika Lindshield, instructor and project coordinator in the food, nutrition, dietetics, and health department, was named Professor of the Week.

Lindshield earned a bachelor's degree in human biology from the University of Kansas, a bachelor's degree in dietetics and a Master of Public Health with an emphasis in public health nutrition from Kansas State University.

Lindshield is responsible for teaching two undergraduate courses, Nutritional Assessment and Personal Wellness, and she also serves as the graduate student coordinator for the food, nutrition, dietetics and health department, providing support to current and prospective graduate students and programs. Additionally, Lindshield serves as an extension associate/project coordinator for a multistate USDA research grant aimed at the prevention of adolescent obesity in limited-resource, minority populations through community-centered efforts and programs using the community-based participatory research model.

Lindshield is an outstanding teacher in the College of Human Ecology and has been recognized for the passion she has for her subject matter as well as her ability to relate to students. In addition to her outstanding ability to teach undergraduate students, Lindshield works with colleagues to provide valuable information to others to help them improve their teaching. Lindshield also is the recipient of the Myers-Alford Teaching Award. We are grateful for Lindshield's passion and in the words of one of her former students her ability to "meet students where they are (which makes) learning a deeply rewarding experience."

The Professor of the Week recognition is coordinated by Faculty Senate, the president's office, K-State Athletics and the Division of Communications and Marketing. Recipients are faculty members selected by Faculty Senate caucuses. Those selected are provided tickets to a men's home basketball game of their choosing and are recognized during halftime. This is just a small token of appreciation for those who teach at K-State.

Lindshield was recognized at the Jan. 19 home game.
