K-State Choirs' Rhapsody Scholarship Concert heads west to Victoria, Dodge City and Wichita

Submitted by David Wood

After four years of successful concerts in the Kansas City Region, the K-State Choirs' Rhapsody Scholarship Concert Event heads west for Rhapsody V.

The K-State Grand Chorus, under the direction of Julie Yu, will present Maurice Duruflé's awe-inspiring "Requiem" featuring organist Daniel Stipe.

The performances will take place in three of western Kansas' wonderful cathedrals: The Basilica of St. Fidelis in Victoria, April 20;  Our Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral in Dodge City, April 21; and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Wichita, April 22.

At two of the events, Rhapsody also will feature performances by local choruses — in Dodge City, the Dodge City High School Class Act Chorale, directed by Kelly Knedler, and in Wichita, the Wichita Community Children's Choirs, directed by Karen Sims.

Tickets are available at ksu.universitytickets.com

Rhapsody is a scholarship gala concert put on by the choir and voice areas of the Kansas State University School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. All the proceeds from Rhapsody go toward giving scholarships to students who perform in the voice area. Rhapsody concerts have already raised more than $150,000 toward scholarships and performance opportunities for K-State students.

Rhapsody also provides students an opportunity to perform alongside professional musicians and at amazing venues. Previous events have been held at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts and at the Folly Theatre in Kansas City.
