Today's Martin Luther King Jr. Observance Week events

Join the K-State community for the following events on Wednesday, Jan. 24, as part of Martin Luther King Jr. Observance Week.
- Noon to 3 p.m., K-State Student Union courtyard, fourth annual Civil Rights College of Arts and Sciences Teach-In. Students, staff, faculty, and members of the community will have the opportunity to listen to five formal speakers and view student poster presentations regarding various aspects of diversity and social justice. Covering a range of current topics from institutional discrimination of standardized tests to intersectional LGBT justice struggles, each formal presenter will speak for about 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of audience discussion.
- Noon — Steven Dandaneau: "Standardized Tests as Institutional Discrimination."
- 12:30 p.m. — Tosha Sampson-Choma: "Toni Morrison and Maya Angelou: Promoting the Human Experience through a Black Aesthetic."
- 1 p.m. — Alisa Garni: "Empowering Immigrants, Strengthening Rural Communities."
- 1:30 p.m. — Rachel Levitt: "Intersectional LGBT Justice Struggles."
- 2 p.m. — Kimetris N. Baltrip: "Hidden Thinking, Tainted Meaning: Recognizing Prejudice in our Words."

- 3 p.m., Town Hall of the Leadership Studies Building, "Sins of our fathers: Growing up in the shadow of segregation and in the hope of integration" lecture by Tim de Noble, dean of the College of Architecture, Planning & Design.
- 4:30 p.m. Regnier Forum at Regnier Hall, "Design, culture, work + life: People, place and the future" presentation by Cheryl S. Durst, executive vice president and chief executive officer of the International Interior Design Association.
