Marcus Gilbert, McNair Scholar and undergraduate printmaking student in the art department, wrote an article for the fall 2016 issue of Graphic Impressions, the Southern Graphics International Printmaking Society newsletter.

In "The Art of Aquatinting: Branching Commercial Airbrush Techniques with the Traditional Aquatinting Methods of Intaglio Printmaking," Gilbert detailed a process combining his experience with commercial airbrushing with etching to apply tonal variations to his fine art etchings without using toxic solvents. He shared his sources and influences, his specific equipment, and a step-by-step technique along with the detail of a self-portrait created using the technique.

Brandon Williams, graduate student in the art department, also had an etching, "Don't Make No Sense" featured in the same issue of the newsletter.

Jason Scuilla, associate professor of art and area head of printmaking, said he's proud of K-State's representation in the prominent publication.

"Marcus and Brandon are both talented artists and skilled craftsmen. It's great to see their research being recognized nationally by the greater printmaking community," Scuilla said.
