Biologist to receive Distinguished Landscape Ecologist Award

Kimberly With, professor in the Division of Biology, will receive the Distinguished Landscape Ecologist Award from the U.S.-International Association for Landscape Ecology, at the association's annual conference April 3-7 in Asheville, North Carolina.
The award is presented to individuals in landscape ecology for distinguished scientific contributions to the field. It specifically recognizes individuals who have helped shape the science for a decade or more.
With studies the ecological consequences of habitat loss, habitat fragmentation and human land use by using a variety of approaches that combine simulation and statistical modeling, experimental landscape studies, and field-based research. Since coming to K-State, she and her lab group have studied the effects of land-management practices on the viability and connectivity of vertebrate populations within the Flint Hills, and she is currently working with Brazilian researchers to investigate land-use effects on species in the Cerrado grasslands of central Brazil.
With also is a two-time recipient of the Outstanding Paper in Landscape Ecology Award in 1996 and 2002 from the same organization, which recognizes individual research papers she published within the field of landscape ecology.
