The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and the College of Arts and Sciences are co-hosting a Regional Application Writing Workshop conducted by Russell Wyland, deputy director of research programs at the National Endowment for the Humanities, or NEH. The workshop will be from 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9 in the Hale Library Hemisphere Room. No fee will be charged to attend, but pre-registration is required.

During the workshop, Wyland will present an overview of NEH programs and special initiatives, facilitate a mock peer review panel session, discuss strategies for successful application writing and answer questions. A limited number of 20-minute appointments with Wyland will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to discuss specific projects. You will have the option to indicate interest in scheduling an appointment on the registration form. Appointments will be held the afternoon of March 9 and the morning of March 10.

The number of attendees is limited, so please register soon! The priority deadline for individual appointment requests is Feb. 19. The deadline for all workshop registrations is March 1. Breakfast on March 9 is included with registration.

Wyland received his doctorate in English literature from the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., concentrating on 19th-century British nonfiction and the history of rhetoric. He is completing a book on the relationship between the established English universities and the emerging periodical press in the early 19th century; his publications include contributions to The Victorian Periodicals Review, Romanticism and Victorianism on the Net and Rhetorica. He has been awarded research grants from the American Philosophical Society and was the recipient of the 2000 VanArsdel Prize given by the Research Society for Victorian Periodicals.
