Trumpet blasts and big band brass: Doc Severinsen and His Big Band at Mccain Feb. 26

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Talented musicians and their brassy instruments will be the star of an upcoming performance in Kansas State University's 2011-2012 McCain Performance Series.

Doc Severinsen and His Big Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, in McCain Auditorium. Consistently playing to sold-out crowds, Severinsen's group features some of the "The Tonight Show's" best musicians, including Ed Shaughnessy on the drums.

"Doc Severinsen is a true American icon and national treasure, not to mention one of the greatest brass players to ever live," said Todd Holmberg, director of McCain Auditorium. "His impact on the history of jazz and broadcast television is a lasting legacy not to be missed."

The band's repertoire includes Ellington and Basie standards, pop, jazz, ballads, big band classics and even "The Tonight Show" theme song. The performance will highlight the depth of talent from a band that was rarely heard playing a whole tune on the air.

Tickets are on sale now, with prices starting at $16 for K-State students and $32 for the general public. Discounts for K-State faculty and staff, military and children are also available. They can be purchased at the McCain Auditorium box office from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, or by calling 785-532-6428. Tickets also can be purchased online at http://www.k-state.edu/mccain.
