Top-three placement for engineering student research paper

Submitted by Mary Rankin

Devin Mangus

Devin Mangus, concurrent bachelor's and master's degree candidate in biological systems engineering, has been selected as having one of the top three Master of Science research papers that qualifies him as a finalist for the Boyd-Scott Graduate Research Award of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers.

He will present his research, "Deploying a thermal infrared imaging system for high spatial and temporal resolution crop water stress monitoring of corn within a greenhouse," July 27 at the society's 2015 annual International Meeting in New Orleans. The oral competition will define the top three placements for cash prizes.

This national-level competition recognizes excellence in the conduct and presentation of research to build the knowledge base needed by engineers who design equipment, facilities and processes for sustainable operation of a biological system.

"This is highly prestigious recognition for Devin and also well deserved," said Ajay Sharda, assistant professor of biological and agricultural engineering and Mangus' faculty adviser. "I expect him to continue to strongly represent Kansas State University and the College of Engineering in the oral phase of this competition."
