Chilled Water Expansion Project: Claflin Road, 17th Street, College Heights Road closures

Submitted by Jack Carlson

On Monday, May 18, Claflin Road, 17th Street and College Heights Road will be closed for construction. Map A shows suggested pedestrian traffic detour routes and map B shows the construction zones.

Two stretches of Claflin Road will be closed May 18 through July 10 so underground chilled water pipes can be installed. The road will be unavailable to traffic east of Mid-Campus Drive to the B1 parking lot next to Weber Hall as well as west of Mid-Campus Drive to 17th Street. Mid-Campus Drive will remain open to north- and south-bound traffic. Claflin Road will be repaved after construction is complete.

The intersection of 17th Street and College Heights Road also will be closed from May 18 to July 1 for the installation of chilled water pipes. Seventeenth Street from College Heights Road north to Claflin Road was permanently closed on April 13 to vehicular traffic to become a pedestrian plaza. Pedestrians will be able to use more of the plaza as construction progresses and it will open completely as early as July 1. Landscaping will continue after July 1 to take advantage of optimal planting times.
