The Kansas State University student chapter of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, or ASPRS, will have its inaugural general membership meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, in 164H Seaton Hall.

Gabriel Granco, president of the chapter, encourages undergraduate and graduate students from any discipline with interests in remote sensing, geographic information systems, or GIS, geospatial analysis and related technologies to attend the meeting and join the club.

"Our vision for the ASPRS student chapter is to be the transdisciplinary home for students wanting to learn more about, share their expertise with, and network with professional involved in the field of geographic information science," Granco said.

Following the general membership meeting, a short research presentation will be made by Shawn Hutchinson, associate professor of geography and director of the Geographic Information Systems Spatial Analysis Laboratory. Hutchinson will discuss recent research using geospatial technologies in support of monitoring military training land conditions.

The society was founded in 1934 and is a scientific association serving thousands of professional members around the world. Its mission is to advance knowledge and improve understanding of mapping sciences to promote the responsible application of photogrammetry, remote sensing, GIS, and supporting technologies.

More information about K-State's student chapter can be found by contacting Gabriel Granco at ggranco@k-state.edu or by visiting the club's website.
