K-State Mock Trial Team scores high at invitational tournament

On Nov. 8-9, the K-State Mock Trial team traveled to Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the fifth annual U.S. Air Force Academy Thunderbird Invitational Tournament. Nineteen students, composing two different teams, represented the university.
K-State was one of 20 exceptional teams from around the country that participated in this high level of competition. Club president Arielle Monroe, communication studies and pre-law, Kansas City, earned outstanding attorney awards on both sides of the case. She was the most consistent and highest-scoring member throughout the competition.
New member Tara Terwilliger, political science and pre-law, Valley Center, was the highest-scoring witness on the plaintiff side, earning straight 9s during each round. New member Darja Meskin, philosophy, political science and pre-law, Bucklin, proved to be one of the highest-scoring attorneys, earning over a 9 average in her first round at the tournament.
Team A was just points away from placing third overall at the tournament, with a record of five wins and three losses. The K-State Mock Trial Team is gearing up to compete in the regional tournament during the spring semester that will determine whether they advance to nationals.
With the strong leadership of Arielle Monroe and vice-president Hale Weirick, economics and music, Olathe, Mock Trial is making a strong showing this year.
