Kinesiology researcher recruiting female runners, triathletes for study

Submitted by Sydney Messick

Are you a female runner or triathlete? If so, you may be eligible to participate in a research study looking at the impact of folic acid supplementation on exercise performance in female endurance athletes.

Sydney Messick, graduate student in kinesiology, is recruiting women between the ages of 18-35 who run at least 25 miles per week — or at least three hours per week of combined running, swimming, and biking while training for triathlons — and who are not taking birth control pills.

As part of this study, you will receive a folic acid supplement and information about your health and fitness, including:

  • Body composition
  • Cholesterol, triglycerides, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and hormone levels
  • Diet analysis
  • Physical fitness

The study will last six to eight weeks and will involve a total of nine lab visits, lasting about one to one and half hours each.
