New online textbook will save students money

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Students in K-State's innovative introductory Biology course, BIOL 198, Principles of Biology, will be using a free online textbook for the first time in the fall 2014 semester. This textbook initiative was funded by a grant from the Student Government Association and the K-State Libraries, and was developed by Robbie Bear, biology instructor, and David Rintoul, associate director of the Division of Biology.

In previous semesters, the required hard-copy textbook was a significant cost for students. For example, the required textbook for spring 2014 cost $200 new and $150 used. Initiatives such as this can help students with their college costs. The new textbook is available online or as a printable PDF version.
