'Academic Freedom and Responsibility in the Era of Social Media' event April 27 at KU

The Joint Council of Kansas Distinguished Professors — from K-State, KU and Wichita State — and the KU provost's office invite you to participate in an afternoon of presentations and discussion on the important topic of academic freedom and responsibility in the era of social media.

The event will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at Alderson Auditorium in the Kansas Union at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. It is free and open to the public.

Speakers include:

  • Mabel L. Rice, Merrill distinguished professor of speech, language and hearing at KU, Serving the Public Tradition of a Public Research University;
  • Richard Levy, Smith distinguished professor of law at KU, Academic Freedom, Social Media and the First Amendment Rights;
  • Charles Epp, professor of public affairs and administration at KU, Report of the Kansas Board of Regents Work Group on the Social Media Policy;
  • Phil Nel, university distinguished professor of English at K-State, Fighting for Freedom of Speech: The First Amendment under Attack; and
  • Doug Ward, associate professor of journalism at KU, Beyond the Walled Garden.
