Registration now open for K-State Recorder Workshop
The music program at Kansas State University and the student chapter of the National Association for Music Education will host the inaugural K-State Recorder Workshop for student and professional music educators, recorder players and enthusiasts, early music fans and more in March 2018 as part of Play the Recorder Month and Early Music Month.
The workshop will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 3, 2018, at McCain Auditorium, room to be determined. Registration is available online.
The K-State Recorder Workshop is open to anyone 13 years or older. Previous recorder experience is beneficial but not required. Participants must provide their own instrument.
The focus of the workshop will be achieving proper tone production, breath control, and articulation along with discussions of appropriate literature. Classes will be offered in a group setting. A limited number of private coaching sessions are available.
The workshop clinician is Anne Timberlake, who has coached through Indiana University's Pre-College Recorder Program and at the Amherst Early Music Festival, the San Francisco Early Music Society, the Virginia Baroque Performance Institute, Mountain Collegium and numerous American Recorder Society chapters. She has appeared across the United States performing repertoire from Bach to 21st-century premieres to Celtic tunes. She holds degrees in recorder performance from Oberlin Conservatory and Indiana University.
Timberlake also will present a short concert program of music for solo recorder open to workshop participants and nonparticipants.
Registration is free for all students of Kansas State University enrolled for the spring 2018 semester along with nonstudent members of the K-State Collegium Musicum.
The registration fee for nonstudents is $20 before Dec. 31 and $25 after Jan. 1, 2018.
Funding for the K-State Recorder Workshop comes from the K-State School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, and the K-State Student Governing Association.
