What content is appropriate for media?

K-State news stories should have relevance to community, state or national audiences. For example, stories about work done at K-State that will improve quality of life for Kansans and beyond through innovations in agriculture, community health, sustainability, technology and more are appropriate. News stories about national or international awards should focus on the work being done by the student/staff/faculty member to earn the award and why the work is important.

How soon will my news be shared?

If a news story is accepted, an editor on the News and Communications Services team will reach out to let you know a tentative distribution date based on the current release schedule, topic timeliness, team workload, etc. We will do our best to distribute the release by the requested publication date you provide in the form below, although we cannot always accommodate next-day requests. The earlier the DCM team is made aware of a news item, the better we are able to create a comprehensive strategy, which may include additional tactics beyond the news story.

An editor carefully reviews each news release to ensure accuracy and style; during the editing process, you may be contacted to provide additional information, clarify parts of the story, expand on a photo cutline, etc. The editorial process and schedule factors into the distribution date.

How will my news be shared?

If your story is accepted and prepared to send to media, the News and Communications Services team will distribute it to the appropriate media based on the topic and relevant location(s) via email. Stories sent to media outlets are typically automatically included in the K-State Today newsletter, so you do not need to complete the K-State Today submission form.
