Alfalfa Weevil Update - 04/11/25

Alfalfa weevil infestation levels continued to climb this past week. The chart below shows levels last week (blue) vs. this week (yellow). NOTE: if there is no yellow bar, the stand was sprayed and therefore not scouted.

Scouting Observations:

1. Many of the larvae found were very small. It can be difficult to visually observe feeding damage from larvae this young, but that will change as they develop.
2. There might be big differences across the field landscape – scout entire fields when possible. In two different instances the past two weeks, it was not uncommon to find multiple larvae/5 stem sample then none at the next spot.
