Alfalfa Weevil Update - 03/27/25
Weevil hatching increased over the past 10 days, but most fields are still not seeing much feeding pressure. Most sites sampled are well below 40% infestation levels, with almost 50% of the fields with no larvae found at all.

The fields with the most damage appear to be those with a combination higher levels of residue left from last fall. In those fields, fall egg laying and degree day accumulation before winter set in (October had a number of warm days…) likely contributed to earlier hatching this spring. Scouting will need to be field specific depending on what management was last fall.
Regular reports will continue to be posted at this site. Please drop me a line if you have any questions!
