Alfalfa Weevil Update - 03/15/25

K-State Field Crops Entomologist Jeff Whitworth mentioned the impending alfalfa weevil hatch in early March. Sure enough…it has begun…with small larvae confirmed last week in the southern part of the District. There weren’t many – and they were small – but they were present…

It shouldn’t be a surprise – and it wouldn’t be surprising to see increasing activity based on the growing degree days accumulated thus far:

Note the departure from normal. This isn’t a big deal, unless alfalfa growth doesn’t keep pace. Regular scouting is encouraged.
